Curator’s statement
Our family took a much needed vacation of adventure and food. It was our first time being in Maui and we wanted to explore every piece of the island while also exploring the unique flavors of each city. Perfect for our family and also for an engagement photoshoot for my fiancé and I. We found a perfect spot and wanted to share our adventures and itinerary.

Day 1: Old Lahaina Luau
Old Lahaina Luau: Book this luau in advance as these typically book out 3 months in advance. However, you can place yourself on the waitlist but would need to check in periodically to reserve your spot. Once you reserve your spot, you will notice why this luau is so popular! This Luau is a must when visiting Maui, it has great traditional Hawaiian food with unlimited premium adult beverages for adults 21+. They give you a Lei and a welcome, which is perfect way to start your Maui trip! A beautiful traditional Hawaiian Luau show in front of oceanfront views during sunset. Our family booked a table and chair for seating but they also have floor and cushion seating which has front views of the show if you'd like to try something different!
Day 2: Road to Hana tour
Road to Hana whole day tour: This tour is not for the faint of heart, there are sharp turns and stops traveling through the East side of Maui. Recommend bringing some ginger candy or Dramamine/Bonine if you are prone to motion sickness! But the reward is stopping by little shops and taking a peek at the amazing waterfalls, beaches, greens and learning about what Maui has to offer through a guided tour. In this tour, your guide will stop by beaches and parks such as Koki Red Sand Beach (recommend grabbing some Huli Huli chicken, as seen on Gordon Ramsey's "Uncharted" show), taking a swim at the Wai'anapanapa State Park's Black sand beach and jumping off a waterfall into a freshwater pond for a rinse at the Ko'olau Forest Reserve.
This tour is a full day family adventure tour, so be sure to pack swimsuits, towels, sunscreen, hand sanitizer and cash (since you'll be stopping by local fruit stands and small businesses). They provide continental breakfast and lunch. You can also purchase your own snacks, drinks and food at different stops on the tour. I recommend trying Huli Huli chicken, local coconut and avocados there! It is a scenic tour to the East side of Maui and you'll be able to get a ride to Hana without the need of renting a Jeep yourself and driving on off-road terrains.
Day 3: Snorkeling tour to Molokini Crater
Snorkeling tour to Molokini Crater: There are several different snorkeling tours and they all leave from the Ma'alaea Harbor. I highly recommend the Trilogy II snorkeling tours, you'll be riding on a large catamaran where they serve you continental breakfast of cinnamon rolls, tropical fruit with complimentary Kona coffee, hot tea, hot cocoa or pineapple juice. You will sail towards Molokini Crater which is a crescent shaped old volcano crater. A popular destination for snorkeling and diving, since it has habitants of hundreds of species of fish and coral in clear ocean blue water. This tour also sails towards the backside of the crater where you'll visit "Turtle town" and be able to snorkel amongst large sea turtles which you can spot at least 2-3 in the area.
After, the captains sails back to the harbor and during the trip they will serve you complimentary BBQ chicken lunch and serve up to 2 premium alcoholic drinks for adults 21+. Our family truly enjoyed this tour, they take care of you along the way and for first timers they also walk you through the snorkeling process. I recommend sitting at the front of the catamaran, you will get a full view of the crater along the way and will be first in line jumping into the water. This tour also has the option of purchasing underwater photos from a private photographer sailing with you the entire time, perfect for family photo ops and capturing unforgettable moments!
Day 4: Ziplining in Kapalua
Ziplining Day in Kapalua: We booked Kapalua Ziplines. Dress in comfortable and athleisure wear clothes and shoes as you zipline through exclusive rainforest peaks of Kapalua, which are only open to tour guides of the Kapalua Ziplines and not to the public. It is a perfect opportunity for adventurous types or for the non thrill seeking types to ride along and take in the sights. You can choose from four lines or six lines to zipline from depending the hours you choose. We opted for four lines but wished we choose six lines!
You meet the tour guides at a hotel location where they provide you with helmets and transport you in a van to a private off-terrain area and drive you up to the zipline points. They advise you to not bring your phone or items due to the terrain and ATV rides, lockers will be provided for free at their offices. However, you can rent go-pros at $50 fee each for the duration of the tour to capture your moments and also the tour guide takes photos and videos of you prior to taking off the ziplines. I highly recommend renting a go-pro to capture these moments! Elevations start from 500ft to 2300 ft. ATV rides will be provided for each different elevation destination. There will be safety training and checks throughout each zipline points. Just enjoy the ride!
Day 5: Visit Maluaka Beach
Visit the Maluaka Beach on the South end towards Wailea for a swim and some photo ops. This is where we took our engagement photoshoot during sunset, which has spectacular views of volcanic rocks and in the distance Molokini Crater. Perfect way to end your trip is to swim until sunset, the water is warm like taking a bath and the sand is smooth with no rocks or shells interrupting your toes. The beach is secluded enough where you feel it is private and you can enjoy the views without tourists hanging around. Great for family, engagement, proposal, honeymooners and babymooner photoshoots!
