Considered one of the country’s most beautiful and colorful cities, it is also home to the wedding callejoneadas (street serenades), haciendas, chiles rellenos and plenty of color. Things to do in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
San Miguel de Allende is a small but mighty city with a welter of exciting offerings and things to see. Starting out at the main plaza – Parque Juarez – head out to the Parroquia de San Miguel de Arcangel to see the famous church with a long waitlist for weddings.
When you’re done with the town’s center, head out to the tasting room of the tequila company Casa Dragones. It is a truly sublime experience that offers understanding of one of Mexico’s most sacred spirits. Visit Rancho La Trinidad just outside of town as well to understand the origins of organic ingredients in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and then head horseback riding at Rancho Xotolar.
For further exploration of the local fauna and flora, head out to El Charco del Ingenio – San Miguel's botanical garden. This space features a lush compilation of Mexico ethnobotanical plants. Another curious experience is a visit to the ancient Otomi pyramids of Cañada de la Virgen. Finally, for a proper repose, a visit to La Gruta Hot Springs is necessary.
