Curator’s statement
Phuket, Thailand, is home to the most dreamy and probably most-Instagrammed island in the world with its wooden boats and flower adornments. But beyond the social media fame, it is a lovely province of Thailand with hospitable people and beautiful corners to explore, from Phuket Island to the Phang Nga Bay island and Phuket town. Just remember to do so respectfully as you visit a sacred and fragile ecosystem, so keep your sunscreen reef-safe and plastic out of the water.

Things to do in Phuket, Thailand
Tour Phuket Island
Take a tour of Phuket Island to acquaint yourself with the local topography. Start at the Gibbon Rehabilitation Center. These animals are endangered and were poached to extinction nearly 40 years ago. Today, this lovely center fights to maintain the biodiversity on the island.
The Khao Rang is a popular spot a the top of the mountain for views that overlook Phuket Town, where you should head after. Then, in the Old City of Phuket town, you can walk around the different shops and enjoy a refreshing drink. Finally, the last few attractions on the island include the Big Buddha, a famous statue high up above Phuket Town, and the Kata Karon Viewpoint with its stunning views of the Andaman Sea.
Tour Phang Nga Bay
The Phang Nga Bay is the most popular, postcard-perfect part of Phuket. Take a boat tour of its island. Start with Panak Island with its emerald green vegetation and ominous caves. Then head to Hong Island and kayak around the island. It is a beautiful spot where you can also enjoy heavenly beaches. Another great option is Khao Ping Kan Island, aka James Bond Island, with its freestanding stone appearance. The Koh Panyee Island, a floating muslin island, is one of the only residential islands with approximately 1,600 residents, a mosque, school, restaurants and shopping. Lawa Island is excellent for its sprawling beaches. Finally, stop by the Ice Cream Cave. Put on a helmet and use flashlights to explore the cave.
Shopping at Phuket Town Weekend Night Market
There are plenty of curiosities to buy in Thailand, but the Phuket weekend night market is an entity of its own. Here you can buy all sorts of things from fruits to trinkets, animals and clothes.
