Things to do in Berlin, Germany
East Side Gallery - Where the longest-standing portion of the Wall still exists. The wall was painted by over 100 artists from various countries creating an open-air gallery.
Checkpoint Charlie - The most famous crossing point between East and West Germany. Located in the Allied Museum in the Dahlem neighborhood of Berlin is right out of the history books. The juxtaposition of souvenir shops and the large image of a soviet soldier makes you realize how different those days were only 33+ years ago. Walking around and touching pieces of the wall, you feel the energy they hold.
Museum Island - One of three Unesco sites in Berlin with five museums. The Pergamon Museum, the Old National Gallery, the Bode Museum, the Old Museum and the New Museum all on one island. Relax on the grounds of Lustgarten before heading back over the bridge.
Shopping in Berlin is a high point. A variety of weekly markets and stores showcasing local designers are some of my favorites. Each neighborhood of shops has it's own unique style.
Have a swim in one of the few beautiful architect-designed indoor public pools/baths.
Architect Reinhold Kiehl designed Berliner Bader after an ancient thermal bath and the results are stunning. They offer saunas to warm up in after and are equally impressive.
The zoo and botanical garden of Berlin are excellent choices with children in tow.
Visit an art gallery while in Berlin. Berlin has a vibrant art community and uniquely defined artists can be found throughout the city. Check out Art Cru, which features unconventional art performed by intellectually or mentally handicapped persons. Offering insight into the feelings or thoughts expressed through art as an outlet.
Places to eat & drink in Berlin, Germany
Berlin is one of the best places to explore the world of vegetarian and vegan lifestyle.
Enter from the back alley to my number one favorite spot COOKIES CREAM. A vegetarian/vegan restaurant where I sat next to (shoulder to shoulder) with Thom Yorke from Radiohead. After dinner head to the club for a long night of dancing.
Kumpel & Keule Speisewirtschaft is the place to go when you are craving a non-vegan meal in Berlin. The German cuisine is locally sourced and high-quality meats.
Peter Paul is the place to try modern German classics in an intimate setting with original artwork adorning the walls.
Tim Raue for an over-the-top tasting menu when you are celebrating a special occasion.
Lia's Kitchen in Prenzlauer Berg for fast food vegan style. Try the "Chicken" Burger.
Kin Za Georgian Kitchen - healthy GEORGIAN street food.
If you have a big group head to Tenur. With amazing mezze platters and long large tables to fit your group, this is a sure crowd-pleaser.
Alaska Bar for food and a fun bar scene late at night.
Becketts Kopf - Enter the cocktail bar through an unmarked door.
Geist im Glas - Cool spot to grab a drink with a friend.
