Day 1: Arrival and relax at the spa of your hotel
Since you will likely have had a long travel day to Ushuaia, take the evening and relax at the spa of your hotel and enjoy the beautiful scenery around you in what is the southernmost city of Argentina. Parts of this area are known as “the end of the world."
Day 2: Cruise the Beagle Channel and explore the town of Ushuaia
The Beagle Channel separates Chile and Argentina. There are small islands throughout the channel you will be able to see on this relaxing adventure. Ushuaia is a resort town worth just wandering around in. Grab a cup of coffee or a local beer at a restaurant around town. There will most likely be some frenzied people gathering supplies for their trek to Antarctica. Wander along the waterfront to check out the fishing boats preparing for a day at sea, or just arriving from a long day of work. Take the Southern Fuegian Railway – aka train to the end of the world – and wander around the national park. There are five trips daily so be sure to time everything correctly to get back to Ushuaia.
Day 3: Hike around Tierra del Fuego National Park
Tierra del Fuego National Park is the southernmost national park in the world. There are beautiful waterfalls, lakes, lagoons and paths along beaches for you to explore. Hire a local guide if you would like to know more about the local wildlife and people who used to inhabit the area.
Day 4: Isla Martillo to see wild penguins
Isla Martillo is an island where you can see penguins in their natural habitat. Most of them waddle around as if you are not there. You will most likely never be closer to penguins in their natural habitat!
Day 5: Hike to Laguna Esmeralda and have a picnic
Laguna Esmeralda is the blue-green glacial lake you’ll arrive at after a two hour muddy trail hike. Bring a picnic to enjoy the scenery for a while after your hike and meander back through the forests and streams on your way back.
