Things to do in Los Angeles
Beaches, of course
When in California, start at the beach! Visit the world-renowned pier and go for a ride on the Ferris Wheel in Santa Monica. Browse the souvenir shops, hit the tattoo parlors or watch all the skateboarders in Venice Beach. Head south to Manhattan Beach for a surf lesson or just to enjoy the great beach community. While you’re there, take a peek at the stunning Wayfarers Chapel, which was designed by Lloyd Wright. If you have one more beach visit in you, the whole family will enjoy a day trip to Laguna Beach to watch the seals from up close.
Arts & culture
Back in the city, don’t miss the chance to visit the brand new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, dedicated to all things movies and Hollywood. Art lovers will enjoy a trip to the Getty Center, where paintings are displayed amid modern architecture. Don’t forget to take a wander in the beautiful gardens.
Get outside
Ready to put on your hiking boots? Los Angeles offers plenty of trails to satisfy your needs to feel at one with nature. In Griffith Park, the Old Zoo Loop is spooky and fun for kids, as you can still see the old cages along the way. Walk up the Griffith Observatory or around the Hollywood Reservoir. Runyon Canyon Park is also a popular hiking destination, a place to see and be seen. Further in Malibu, Solstice Canyon offers an easy hike on which you’ll see waterfalls, as well as the remnants of a stone cottage built by Matthew Keller.
Explore different neighborhoods
Every neighborhood in Los Angeles has its own charm, so be sure to explore as many as you can. Loz Feliz offers vintage shopping and great coffee shops, Silver Lake is trendy and eclectic, and Echo Park is worth a wander for a touch of urban grit with amazing food trucks.
A note from Souvenir
MLos Angeles is also famous for its flea markets, such as the Melrose Trading Post. Bring home a pair of vintage denim shorts or a piece by a local artist to display at home.
Places to eat & drink in Los Angeles
Lunch & dinner
Night Market: If you like spicy food, this amazing Thai restaurant will deliver and then some. Make sure to order the crispy rice salad, their signature dish.
Son of a Gun: The nautical theme sets the scene for this modern seafood restaurant. The shrimp toast and lobster rolls steal the spotlight, but anything you order will be fresh and fabulous.
Guerilla Tacos: Between the funky vibe and the modern twist on tacos, this is a different kind of Mexican restaurant and definitely worth a try. The cocktail list is pretty cool, too.
In-n-Out Burger: If you’ve never tried it (or even if you have) a good burger is always had at this California institution. The kids will thank you.
The Apple Pan: This classic diner serves up traditional American fare (think grilled cheese and southern baked ham) around a u-shaped counter surrounded by red leather stools. Be sure to leave room for a slice of their wonderful pies.
Ivy at the Shore: If you still haven’t spotted a celebrity, stop by this classic L.A. restaurant. The setting is charming, like you’ve stepped back in time, and the food is delicious.
