Curator’s statement
Napa Valley has so much to offer with both exquisite food and wine experiences. I designed this itinerary focused almost entirely in Calistoga to maximize your time in the valley so you can spend more time sipping, noshing and soaking up the spa! Living not far from the valley, I've skipped over the corporate giants that most tour companies will take you to. A note on cost and crowds — don't be afraid to go in the "off season." One of the best kept secrets of the area is that January and February visits can be just as enchanting as harvest, with less crowds and lower room rates. As with most aspects of travel, wine tasting has changed somewhat post pandemic. Appointments are required almost everywhere and party sizes are sometimes limited to 6 or less. The properties herein all have outdoor or private options for seating.

Day 1: Arrive and Relax
It's Friday afternoon and you've snuck out of town early, so enjoy it! Your advisor has requested an early check-in, drop your bags and head out. Enjoy signature cocktails at Solbar or share a bottle of cabernet by one of the fire pits on the property. Solidify your intention to relax with late afternoon massages at the spa, soaking in the natural geothermal pools after.
Head back to your room to get ready for dinner. The Charter Oak in St. Helena is well worth the 20 minute jaunt by private car, and the Dungeness crab is not to be missed. The raw vegetables with fermented soy dip are a surprise stunner on the menu as well. If you are celebrating a special occasion or prefer a private space, consider booking one of their outdoor dining yurts.
Day 2: Sip and Nosh
Book a private car or Sprinter for the day and head to Sam's Social Club to lay a healthy foundation for your tastings. Their breakfast menu leaves nothing behind with excellent smoothies, coffee service and cocktails. The glazed pork belly, egg in the hole and candy cap churros are not to be missed.
Meet your driver and head out for some tastings. With groups and the slower pace of wine country these days, I recommend no more than three tasting appointments for the day. This does not include property and/or vineyard tours. Focusing on quality over quantity will ensure relaxed vibes and leave plenty of time for revisiting your favorites or anything special your host may want to open.
First Stop: Twomey
Enjoy this modern farmhouse stunner from the folks at the famed Silver Oak, focusing on high quality pinot noir and sauvignon blanc. Ask about Timeless if it's not showcased on the tasting menu.
Second Stop: Brian Arden
Lead by two generations of the Harlan family, this new kid on the block showcases the classic bordeaux varietals driven by high quality fruit from some of the most exclusive blocks in the valley. Try one of their food pairing options from the chef.
Final Stop: Tamber Bey
This property is especially unique as it combines a world class winery with a spectacular equestrian facility. Enjoy their delicious sauvignon blanc, malbec and other varietals alongside a curated picnic lunch from local favorite Sam's General Store. Soak up the sun in their gorgeous central courtyard and take a stroll to spend time with the horses and ponies all around.
Head back to your hotel to recharge and prepare for a lively and memorable dinner at Fleetwood, showcasing creative cocktails and a wood fired oven. Be sure to ask about their lovely private room. Close out the evening with a night swim in one of the many geothermal pools under the valley stars.
Day 3: Sleep in and Checkout
Your advisor requested a late checkout, so indulge in some extra zzz's before packing up and heading out. Enjoy a quick but delicious breakfast at Sam's General Store (a short walk or bike ride from most hotels.) Sam's Gold Latte and the house made quiche are favorites. I like to grab one of their roast beef sandwiches with truffle chips for the trip home.
