Golf & Beach-hopping through Mallorca

I highly recommend renting a car when in Mallorca. Most places would be less than an hour drive from the airport and you can explore all the hidden gems.

An ideal golf and beach vacation could be based out of a beautiful hotel such as Cap Vermell Grand hotel which is located at Canyamel Golf course. It’s located in the vicinity of the most serene beaches that should be on your bucket list.

Beach-hopping

Cala Agulla

Starting the list with Cala Agulla – my favorite beach out of all. It holds the prestigious blue flag award as one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable beaches in the Mediterranean. Unique feature is the little pink sand shimmers you can see along the beach, created from the specific coral in the bay. The water is so crystal clear, it makes it look like you are in a swimming pool and it is pretty shallow which allows for great snorkeling along the coast.
This beach features a wonderful pine forest backdrop, which also serves as relief from the sun. You can rent lounge chairs and umbrellas as you spend the day relaxing.

Calo des Moro

Calo des Moro is a beautiful natural beach, unencumbered by modern amenities. It is located between majestic cliffs and lush vegetation that grace the bay. After you park your vehicle, you have to walk a few hundred meters, passing the beach Cala s’Almunia on your way to Calo des Moro. You can either take the stairs (recommend if you are traveling with children) or stroll down the trail.

Mirador Es Pontas

Mirador Es Pontas is the perfect backdrop for your photos to show off this amazing trip. It is one of the largest arches that sit off the coast of the island. For the adventure seekers – it is a popular cliff jumping site. It’s nearby Cala Llombards, so plan to visit both.

Cala Llombards

This spot is one of the hidden gems of Mallorca, frequented by the locals. It’s outside the town and more secluded than other beaches. A great location to catch the sunrise.

Cala D’or & Mondrago Natural Park

You can easily dedicate a whole day to this area. Perfect location if you are looking to swim, tan and sip Sangria as you hop your way around the coves. Visiting this area will make you want to pack your house and move to a villa here. Make sure you also visit Mondragó Natural Park and Grotto de la Piedras Perdidas.

Cala Romantica

Also known as S'Estany d'en Mas, Cala Romantica calls for a secluded romantic stroll on the trail, taking you all the way to the point of the Bay. If you want to gauze into the crystal-clear waters bellow you, I really enjoyed hopping onto the glass bottom Catamaran offered on site.

Cala Varques

I would say this one is more off the beaten path due to it’s location and access. If you choose to drive there, plan for some hiking till you reach the beautiful blue bay. To the left of it there are some great spots for cliff jumping.
I would highly recommend checking out the area by boat. If you decide to go the hiking route – make sure you bring snacks and water to enjoy the hike.

And make sure you don’t miss one of the most famous tourist attractions in Mallorca - the Drach caves (Cuevas del Drach). It is easily the most beautiful cave I have seen in my life. The live classical music concerts and the underground lake make it a magical place.

Golf-hopping

For some golf-hopping here are some of the magnificent golf courses situated on the Eastern part of the island.

Canyamel Golf

This course boosts unique features such as the stone hut on the hole 9, par 4. This is a course that it’s equally challenging and picturesque, it will have you loving the views and cursing your golf shots.You will even catch a glimpse of the island of Menorca from hole 4. Be sure to stop by the 19th hole where you can enjoy a beverage while watching others struggle on the 18th green.

Capdepera Golf

This beautifully manicured course is home to the famous Hole 15 that offers panoramic views and is frequently voted the most beautiful hole on the island. The course will have you playing up and down hills between the unique features of the once operational almond plantation. Don’t leave your sand wedge in the hotel as the bunkers are numerous and provide a unique challenge.

Club de Golf de Son Servera

Mallorca’s second oldest golf course offers majestic views over the Bay of Cala Millor from many of the fairways. This course is more friendly to the novice as many holes are wider and more forgiving. Hole number 3 and 7 are the exception as they are tight fairways lined with many trees. The oak, pine, palm and olive trees are your greatest challenge. Depending on the time of year, the beauty of this golf course is enhanced by the flowering oleanders and bougainvillea and the surrounding birdlife.

Club de Golf Alcanada

Another beautiful golf course worth taking the time to play. This Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed course will challenge you with every shot. Whether you are firmly in the fairway or searching for your ball in the rough, this course offers lots of aesthetically pleasing surroundings. From most of the holes you can lay your eyes on The Lighthouse at Alcanada, the mountains or the sea.

VORO: The two-Michelin star VORO takes its name from the Latin word for ‘devour’. One look at the menu will have you understanding why they chose this name. Must try is the Iberic glazed lobster with its own 'gazpachuelo'.

Vibes by Quince, Porto Cristo: Plan a visit on your way back from Cala Romantica.

Es Celler 9, Porto Petro: When you are around Mondrago National Park. Order the red prawn carpaccio and the Black seafood Fideua.

Es Coll d'Os, Cala Ratjada: The definition of a hidden gem. A must must visit for an excellent 6 course meal.
