How do I work from home as a travel agent?
As a travel agent from home, you work with clients, hotels and travel suppliers (such as tour guides) to sell, curate and book travel. Over the phone and via email, you’ll get to know your clients and tailor travel arrangements to their budget, taste and style. You’ll make sure their travel is not only awesome, but goes off without a hitch. This could mean booking a cruise or a hotel room online, or planning a multi-country journey that includes flights, transfers, tours and restaurant reservations. Travel agents from home often work under the umbrella of a travel agency (referred to as a host agency) that handles commissions and other logistics.
What do I need?
For starters? A WiFi connection. A solid international calling plan, can-do attitude and a few potential clients don’t hurt either. Remember, it’s completely free (yes, free) for clients to book travel with you. You’ll be earning commissions and hooking up your clients with the best perks (like room upgrades, complimentary breakfasts, spa credits and best available rate you’d find on the Internet). For you, there are no exams or other hoops to jump through to start booking travel from home. Nor is experience at a travel agency required.
