When producer, director and writer Mike White announced he would be jetting off to Sicily to film Season 2 of “The White Lotus,” a dark comedy streaming on HBO Max, we eagerly wondered which fabulous hotel would this time serve as the show’s paradisiacal setting (Season 1 was filmed at the luxe Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea.)

What was the hotel in “White Lotus” season 2?

This season, the coveted "White Lotus" filming location (at least, resort-wise) is the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace, a former convent overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, with views of Mount Etna and ancient ruins.

Here, guests can enjoy an impressive selection of fine Sicilian wines, visit a local winery for a curated lunch, hike up Mount Etna (a still-active volcano), rent a yacht or sailboat to cruise around the sparkling Taormina Bay and indulge in Michelin-starred cuisine at the hotel’s signature restaurant, Principe Cerami, helmed by the masterful Etna-born chef Massimo Mantarro.

In the show, Jennifer Coolidge reprises her Season 1 role as the tragic hero Tanya McQuoid, a wealthy and miserable woman hoping to add some adventure and joy back into her life. We’re introduced to other well-to-do travelers: an adulterous Hollywood executive vacationing with his dorky and charming son (a Stanford grad, no less) and his problematic-but-kind-of-adorable father; an out-of-touch couple that doesn’t read the news.

We catch glimpses of their spacious rooms, complete with Italian artwork and handsome marble bathrooms. Such luxurious quarters, coupled with the dazzling Mediterranean waters and pristine pool lined with chic striped umbrellas, only augment our desire to leave the couch and come here ourselves.

Luckily for us, however, the elegant hotel from "White Lotus" Season 2 is not merely a fictional place relegated to the stylized world of the small screen. San Domenico Palace is worth a real-life visit.
