Things to do in London
See The Christmas Carol Play at the Old Vic Theatre: Seeing this classic Christmas story in London is an indescribable experience. Upon entrance to the theatre you are greeted with mulled wine and classic English mince meat pies. This is definitely a great way to get in the holiday spirit.
Fortnum & Mason Christmas Display: Founded in 1707, this is my go to spot to see English charm and hospitality come to life. This is an English department store that has all the teas, cookies and treats that you could imagine. It also has a great holiday display and even has a special Royal warrant given by the late Queen.
Ice Skating at Somerset House Ice Rink: This rink is in the middle of the courtyard of Somerset House and has a 40ft Christmas tree at the center of all the action. If you are not interested in ice skating, you can also sip on champagne while watching others.
Piccadilly Circus and Covent Garden: This is one of the best winter light displays in the city and has tons of shopping options nearby to get all of your holiday gifting ready.
London Eye: Although this is a great experience all year around, I recommend this at night to see the city sparkle during this magical time of the year.
Day trips
A day trip to Windsor Castle is great anytime of year to see the beautiful English countryside and one of the most well known royal castles.
Places to eat & drink in London
The Buttery: This brunch spot is nestled in the Belgravia neighborhood near Buckingham Palace. It used to be an old English-style apartment that was then transformed into a great local eatery. The classic English breakfast is delicious.
Bread Street Kitchen & Bar- St.Paul's: Located near St.Paul's Cathedral, this is a great place for a mouth-watering Beef Wellington. Regardless if you eat meat or not, this restaurant has everything that will make a foodie drool.
Portobello Ristorante & Pizzeria: A short walk from Kensington palace and in the cute area of Notting Hill, this spot sports one of the best Italian meals I have ever had in my entire life. I recommend their classic Pappardelle Boscaiola and/or the Margherita Pizza.
The Goring Dining Room: Serving the ultimate fine-dining experience and classic English hospitality, The Goring does not disappoint. The dinner itself has one feeling like royalty by the end of the night. Fun fact, Princess Catherine stayed here before she married Prince William and sometimes the late Queen has dined here too.
Peggy Porschen London Bakery: This is one of the most-instagrammable locations in all of London. You will notice it by the long lines that wait outside as people grab a photo and a delicious pastry. I recommend to go in the morning or late afternoon, just before dinnertime.
Festive Afternoon Tea
London has so many options for tea that it can become overwhelming on which one to choose, but I guarantee it is an experience to not miss out on. My favorite places for a festive afternoon tea are the Rubens at The Palace or The Ritz London.
Need to Know
It is important to book excursions and make reservations early as things fill up in London during the holiday season very quickly.
